Would my eyesight deteriorate more slowly if I didn't wear my glasses?

It is a common myth that wearing glasses contribute to worsening bad eyesight, BBC Science Focus checks in to see just how true this is.

No. This is a common myth. There is no evidence that progressive eyesight deterioration is accelerated (or for that matter, decelerated) by wearing corrective lenses.

What probably happens is that you notice it more because you keep having to go back to the opticians for stronger prescriptions to keep your vision sharp. Without glasses your vision just goes from fuzzy to fuzzier gradually, which is less obvious.
