Absolutely. Nanotechnology - engineering at a scale of millionths of a millimetre - is no longer confined to the lab. It crops up most frequently in clothing, drug design and new materials. There's an ice axe fabricated from nano-engineered steel that is super high tensile at a fraction of the weight of conventional alloys. And clothes are being developed in which microscopic nanowires generate electricity from your body movement.
