What is the most secure method of long-distance communication?

There are many ways to communicate and send data securely but what's the best long-distance solution?

You could try using the global system for mobile (GSM) communication network. GSM calls are digitally encrypted, but hackers have managed to break the cipher and intercept calls.

If you have the money, there are a number of commercial providers that specialise in government strength encryption that can be installed on conventional handsets. The marketing brochures for such services claim that the systems are watertight.

Another possibility is to use a technique called steganography. This is where one message is embedded within another. For instance, you can sprinkle bits of your data into a file such as an audio MP3 or an image. With the right ‘key’ the recipient can gather the elements of the hidden file and reassemble the original message.
