Do any foods taste better in space? Not usually.

Astronauts on the International Space Station often say that food tastes bland in orbit.

It’s thought that smell and taste are affected by the way fluids move around the body in zero-G, impairing the extent to which they experience flavours.

In 2015, however, astronauts grew and ate lettuce on the ISS, which they found to be more bitter than Earth-grown lettuce.

Recently, a crew fermented miso in space, which they said had a nuttier flavour – possibly due to the way microbes grow in orbit.
